Wordplay is witty or clever form of literature used by authors. Authors use wordplay for many reasons. Two reasons that authors use wordplay are to make fun of society or something in society.For example, if someone wanted to state their opinion about the president of the country, then they may use wordplay. The reason why is because they don't blatantly state their views, but they state it in a way that sound less offensive . Another reason that authors use wordplay is to make their writing more fun and creative. If you were writing a book, you want people to read it right? Well authors Use wordplay to attract more readers and to make their topics seem more interesting.

Alice in Wonderland among many other books are examples of satire that use wordplay. Other books include The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Animal Farm. The reasons that authors write these books is to poke fun at something that is taken out of context and out of hand in society. For instance, in Animal Farm, the leaders, the pigs make fun of communism by taking over the farm and giving everyone equal rights and taking from everyone and redistributing it fairly. In Alice in Wonderland, the author, Lewis Carrol, makes fun of the royal family and the Victorian era in England through the book using wordplay figures like repetition and parodies. These can be seen with the parody of twinkle, twinkle little star a sweet lulliby.

Wordplay is also often used to have fun and be creative. Functions such as assonance and alliteration provide fun and entertainment for the readers to enjoy. These are rhymes with consonants and vowels. Some may be tongue twisters and give the reader some entertainment. Also, different wordplay usages are developed from different writers styles. Obviously a poet needs a better sense for some wordplay usage then a reference book writer. When I start to read a book, what keeps me reading is the choice of words and some entertainment that I could relate to. From past experiences of mine, I only find myself actually reading stories about something I have interest in or if it gives me that feeling where I have to know what happens next. So in order for authors to get more people interested in what they write about, many author use wordplay as a way to do that.
